Central America Relief Effort Dental Team 2011The Central America Relief Effort is a non-profit corporation that provides aid to populations suffering from poverty in Central America. Volunteers distribute a variety of donated items to medical clinics and communities across Honduras, including medical equipment, medical supplies, clothing and much needed food. As well as providing equipment and supplies, The Central America Relief Effort Dental Unit also provides services such as dental cleanings, fluoride treatments and oral health education to children.

During a recent trip to Honduras, a group of nine dedicated volunteers led by Carol Martin and the Central American Relief Effort provided services to children ranging from 5 to 15 years of age. The group conducted eye screenings, dental screenings, fluoride treatments and more to a total of eight local schools. They traveled across the country, over treacherous roads and through dangerous picket lines in order to administer care to over 750 of Honduras’s young residents.

While the children received the dental care needed, they were also educated on the significance of oral health. Using StarSmilez® Personalities, Central America Relief Effort volunteers taught children the importance of taking care of their smiles by reviewing good nutrition, explaining fluoride treatments and demonstrating proper brushing techniques.
Humanitarian efforts like the Central America Relief Effort provide care to thousands of people every year in countries like Honduras. They are essential to providing a brighter, better future for underprivileged children around the world. StarSmilez® is proud to support efforts such as the Central American Relief Effort and oral health education across the globe.
