Broome Community College Dental Hygiene Department gave their time and expertise to serve hundreds of adults and children in Port-au-Prince, Cite Soleil, and Grand Saline Haiti during their spring break in classes. Volunteers provided dental services and worked to help to improve the continuity in the delivery of equipment and supplies that will facilitate future dental mission trips to Haiti.
Children receiving care included residents of the Home of Destiny orphanage and Mother Teresa’s Hospital for Children. Their work is part of an ongoing relief effort that was amplified by the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti in January of 2010.
Most of the dentistry in Haiti is provided by volunteers and the Broome contingency transported all the supplies needed during their stay. StarSmilez is fortunate to be part of Broome’s work in Haiti and be a part of providing dental services to the people of Haiti. Both faculty and students were among the 20 man team giving their time and hard work to deliver dental services to children in Haiti.
